Abstract:

Background Per-Oral Endoscopic Myotomy (POEM) has become an alternative for the treatment of esophageal achalasia worldwide. This therapeutic approach has been recently introduced in South America, especially in Ecuador. Aim to evaluate the efficacy and safety of full thickness resection during POEM for the treatment of esophageal achalasia in an Ecuadorian population. Methods Observational, analytic, longitudinal, single-arm cohort study. Data from patients who underwent POEM from Jul-2016 to Oct-2017 was prospectively recorded and analyzed. Achalasia diagnosis was based on High Resolution Esophageal Manometry (HREM) findings, according to Chicago Classification. Technical success was defined as the successful completion of POEM.
