Two new species of lepanthes (Pleurothallidinae; orchidaceae) from Andean forest remnants in Ibarra, Ecuador
Abstract:
La Carbonería forest patches are isolated and restricted to areas of rugged topography with a largely unexplored flora. Two new species of orchids were discovered in our first exploration: Lepanthes ibarrense and Lepanthes obandoi, described and illustrated here. Lepanthes ibarrense is similar to L. zapatae but is distinguished by its arched stems, reduced petals with a small, rounded apicule, lip with lanceolate-oblong, papillose laminae, small, rounded appendix covered with white pubescence apically and triangular, long-attenuate, reflexed rostellum. Lepanthes obandoi resembles L. muscula, L. guanacasensis and L. osiris but can be distinguished by the much taller plant with distinct superposed stems, elongate appendix with orbicular, pubescent apex and a prominent basal tuft of white hairs.
