Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus and Pbkp_rediabetes prevalence in adults who attend the Comprehensive Nutrition service from a Health Service Franchise in the city of Maracay, Venezuela


Abstract:

Introduction: nowadays Diabetes mellitus type 2 (DM2) constitute one of the main problems in public health around the world, therefore the principal objective of this investigation was to determinate the prevalence of DM2 and pbkp_rediabetes, as well as multiple risk factors associated with patients that go for integral nutrition consultation in Maracay city (Venezuela), 2013 Materials and methods: a descriptive, cross-sectional and random study was [(perform or realize)] in 240 people of both sexes, women (n=190; 79,2%) and men (n=50; 20,8%). Two models of logistic regression were made to analize the leading associated factors to DM2 and pbkp_rediabetes, which were adjusted by: sex, age groups, personal history of HTA, category of IMC, HDL-C, LDL-C, triglycerides and uric acid tertiles Results: the prevalence of DM2 was 11,7% (Female: 10,0%; Male: 18,0%), on the other hand the percentage of pbkp_rediabetic people, also was 11,7%. After independent variables adjustments for DM2, the riskiest factor was a antecedent of arterial hypertension (OR: 6,00; IC95%: 2,11-17,11; p<0,0001), whereas for pre-diabetes was age > 40 years. Conclusion: the prevalence of DM2 in our population matches with the world projection of the International Federation of Diabetes and it is upper than previous reports in our country. On the contrary the behavior of pre-diabetes is opposed to lower numbers showed previously. The evaluation of new factors, such as uric acid on the detection of individuals with potential risk should be extended in future studies.
