Abstract:

Enriched uranium oxide, U{sub 3}O{sub 8}, used as nuclear powder in MTR's, can be obtained by direct oxidation of metallic uranium at 800 C degrees. Maximum density, 8.2 gr/cm{sup 3}, is achieved after grinding and a high temperature treatment at 1400 C degrees. All the process is highly controllable and performed in dry environments. (author)
