USE OF ELECTRONIC COMPUTERS AS A PREDISPOSING FACTOR FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF ASTHENOPIA


Abstract:

The computer in integral education is a powerful and versatile tool that has become an indispensable element for the popu¬lation worldwide, its use increased as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic which caused the suspension of all academic ac¬tivities forcing students to receive virtual classes; which increased the incidence of asthenopia also known as ocular fatigue, a subjective symptom of vision that is mainly characterized by: Burning, pain, irritation, dry and reddened eye sensation, as a consequence of spending several hours in front of computers. Objectives: To determine the use of electronic computers as a pbkp_redisposing factor for the development of asthenopia. Methods: Bibliographic review by descriptive study of scientific articles, written in English and Spanish and published between 2015 and 2021, including clinical trials, papers, review, syste¬matic review and meta-analysis. Results: Ergonomics and practical advice for the correct use of electronic devices, decrease the incidence to develop asthenopia. Conclusions: People who spend long periods of time in front of computers, cell phones and tablets are at greater risk of visual problems, including eye fatigue.
