USE OF THE APICAL LOCATOR DURING ENDODONTIC THERAPY BY PROFESSIONALS FROM THE PROVINCE OF TUNGURAHUA


Abstract:

Apical locators are instruments that help the dental professional establish root canal measurements, helping to determine the working length for endodontic treatment. The objective of this scientific article was to determine the use of apical locators in endodontic therapy by professionals in the city of Ambato. The study used the quantitative modality, which scope is descriptive and applied. The research technique was the survey and documentary analysis. The population studied was 20 dental professionals, 10 general dentists and 10 specialists in endodontics. The results obtained were that 85 % had used an apical locator, 36 % considered that the locator helped to reduce the working time in Endodontics, 30 % considered that it provided more precise data than radiography, 75 % considered that there was no irrigation solution applicable to the locators to make them more effective, Among the main disadvantages, 28 % identified that it does not replace the radiographic method and it is not advisable to use the apical locator with patients with pacemakers, and 65 % considered that the efficiency of the locator does not depend on the dentist. According to the results obtained, it is concluded that the apical locator helps to reduce working time and has a good length accuracy to provide better care to patients requiring endodontic therapy.
