Under prosthesis stomatitis in total and partial tooth extraction

Abstract:

Introduction: Oral injuries associated with the use of removable dentures are disorders that, due to their high prevalence, are increasingly worrying, among these is sub-prosthesis stomatitis. Therefore, the objective of this study was to determine the behavior of this lesion. Methodology: An observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study was carried out from June 2019 to January 2020, at the Calderón Dental Office, Quito. The universe was made up of 307 patients with removable prostheses and the sample was non-probabilistic, 172 patients who presented sub-prosthesis stomatitis, an interrogation and clinical examination were carried out. Results: Stomatitis occurred in more than half of those examined, most of them women and in the age group of 40-59 years. Grade II stomatitis was more frequent in patients with partial dentures, with time of use of more than 5 years and continuous use of the prostheses. Most of those examined were found to be asymptomatic. Conclusion: The results made it possible to determine the behavior of denture stomatitis, demonstrating the high frequency of its appearance and the need to increase educational work in this regard for its timely prevention.
