Understanding the operation of Moodle: An approach based on a modeling framework

Abstract:

In this article we present a scheme that allows us to understand the functioning of Moodle, making a formal description of this learning environment. Like most of the tools developed under the “open source” philosophy, Moodle does not have a formal specification of its operation or architecture, which makes it difficult to understand the internal processes that are carried out and the analysis of behavior and performance, which would allow the identification, location and control of information when it is required to verify the operation or interoperability. To obtain the formal description of Moodle, a methodology based on reverse engineering of software was developed, generating the specifications in UML, which represents a model framework.
