University Applications Based on Cloud Computing: North Technical University Case
Abstract:
This paper describes a project that offers university applications based on an implementation of a Cloud Computing infrastructure to the community of North Technical University. Methodologically, a Data Center was designed that complies with the ANSI/TIA/EIA 942 standard guidelines for hosting network equipment, communication services, and applications. A Private Cloud Computing infrastructure was implemented under the free software platforms OpenStack, OpenNebula, and Eucalyptus for the development of different university applications based on a new computer model. Virtualized services are offered, which allow optimizing resources, both storage, processing, and performance of virtual machines destined for laboratories of differences in the fields of Engineering in Electronics and Communication Networks. Different applications were designed as IP telephony centers, unified communications and migration of services of Survey Manager, Reagents, Virtual Learning Environments whose implementation characteristics will allow obtaining a robust service that meets the requirements of an application for university purposes. The results allow teachers and students to define new models of collaboration, communication, and learning in the classroom. The use of information and communication technologies oriented to education are tools that contribute considerably to the learning process and are tools that are currently being implemented to improve learning in universities.
