Use of augmented reality in the 7th graders’ reading process
Abstract:
This project aims to identify the benefits that augmented reality gives to the three reading stages: pre-reading, while-reading, and post-reading to increase reading habits. This project focuses on the seventh graders’ English classes, and its proposal consists of a program with reading passages using augmented reality to improve reading and listening as a sub-skill. Seventh graders from a public school in Guayaquil, Ecuador, participated in a survey to collect data. The results stated that their reading habit was not properly developed; however, they manifested their interest in reading different genres. Likewise, the teacher expressed her willingness to use augmented reality in the reading process. Based on the literature consulted, it is concluded that augmented reality gives the English class a game-based learning environment, gamification, that contributes to a more meaningful learning process
