Use of ceramic waste as a cement substitute in the mortar manufacture
Abstract:
During this research, the use of crushed ceramic residues was studied. They came from a factory in Quito as material used for substituting the cement in mortars. The mortar was made with cement in a 100%, and then compared with mortar with different percentages of crushed ceramic (3%, 5%, 7%, 10%, 15%). It is observed that the mortar compression strength is similar up to percentages of 10% of crushed ceramics. It is concluded that the use of ceramic waste would reduce the cost of mortars, maintaining its strength. The characterization of the materials used to make the mortar was made by using ruled essays of the ASTM (American Society Testing Materials) and the NTE (Ecuadorian Technical Rules).
