Using multi-sensorial augmented reality in a museum's exhibition environment
Abstract:
Augmented reality actually impacts the development of interactive environments in museums and general learning environments. This paper presents the results in the design of a multi-sensorial augmented reality experience. The novelty of the proposal resides in the capacity of interpreting the reality through the activation of electronic actuators. The software was encoded using Unity3D and the hardware includes the use of a mobile with Bluetooth communication with an Arduino. The so called app RACIE was implemented as a free open source solution which is described in this paper. An experiment was carried out for evaluating the acceptance of RACIE by using the Technology Acceptance Model. The results were satisfactory. In opinion of potential users, the proposal would increase interest in learning by visiting museums with this technology. Nevertheless, results are not conclusive and more research is needed since sociological point of view is determinant in this research.
