Abstract:

Objective: To determine the usefulness of carcinoembryonic antigen in the diagnosis and monitoring of gastric adenocarcinomas colorectal SOLCA the city of Cuenca, in the period 1994 - 2009. Background: Studies conducted worldwide determine the ACE as an important antigen in the prognosis and monitoring of gastric and colorectal adenocarcinomas, mainly in the latter. In our population there is an investigation, and it is important to establish data as our patients have different characteristics, both in lifestyles and environment. Results: The research was conducted in a total of 2809 patients, of whom 806 are diagnosed with adenocarcinoma 2003 colorectal and gastric adenocarcinoma. This study reveals an incidence rate of 12.8 per 100,000 for colorectal adenocarcinoma and of 31.8 per 100,000 in habitant’s gastric adenocarcinoma. The ages between 70 and 84 years were the most affected by these diseases with incidence of 40.07% in colorectal adenocarcinoma and 37.69% in gastric adenocarcinoma. By taking into account gender noted that these conditions prevail in the male, so in Colorectal adenocarcinoma accounts for 52.11% of cases and the gastric adenocarcinoma 58.21%. Patients with gastric adenocarcinoma did not have ACE values at the time of diagnosis, why were not included in the analysis of the usefulness of CEA in the diagnosis and monitoring disease. Of the 806 patients with colorectal adenocarcinoma only 507 patients had CEA levels at the time of diagnosis, the same was compared with the stage of disease, demonstrating that there is no statistical significance between the sensitivity of antigen and the same stage of the diagnosis (p = 0.165). The determination of CEA in the follow-up performed per month, three months, six months and one year after starting treatment. Conclusions: The CEA plays a role the prognosis and monitoring of colorectal adenocarcinoma and will which determine together with the tumor stage treatment of this condition to improve the lifestyle of patients Keywords: colorectal adenocarcinoma antigen carcinoembryonic.
