VALIDATION OF A SCALE MEASURING STRESS-RELATED SITUATIONS (SRS-12) IN ECUADORIAN PATIENTS WITH DIABETES MELLITUS

Abstract:

Diabetes mellitus is one of the leading causes of death in the world and the second in Ecuador. In the Latin American context, there are few valid and reliable instruments that allow measuring situations related to stress in patients with a chronic disease. This research includes a cross-sectional and psychometric study, whose objective is to analyze the psychometric properties of a brief scale that measures Stress-Related Situations (SRS-12) in a sample of 200 Ecuadorian patients with a medical diagnosis of diabetes mellitus. The results showed the existence of two factors that together explain 70.09% of the total variance of the response of the instruments. Reliability yielded optimal scores for both the general scale (alpha = 0.92) and its two dimensions respectively (alpha = 0.91 and alpha= 0.79). SRS-12 and its two dimensions correlated with the time of diagnosis of the disease and the performance of physical …
