VALUE-BASED MANAGEMENT AS A MANAGEMENT ALTERNATIVE FOR UNIVERSITIES
Abstract:
At present, it is a growing and increasingly relevant orientation to take into consideration values in the understanding and implementation of managerial processes in organizations, particularly in the field of university management, as one of the ways of confronting mercantilist and practitioner practices that can be manifested here. The objective of this paper is to establish that management by values constitutes a management option that could be valid for the development of managerial activity at the higher level of education. Through the methods of documentary analysis and analytical-synthetic, the psychological, epistemological, sociological, administrative, and axiological foundations of this management approach are delimited, distinguishing their strengths and weaknesses in each case. This concludes that the management by values is an unavoidable element to channel and manage in an accurate manner the main tendencies that today mark with their seal to higher education, offering a powerful and effective means to raise the levels of quality, efficiency and relevance in these institutions, offering university management the foundation, awareness, coherence, systematicity and comprehensiveness that supposes and demands the establishment of the direction of its processes and functions on the basis of values.
