VNIBR-EM: A routing protocol for emergency messages dissemination in vehicular networks
Abstract:
Road safety is an important goal of Intelligent Transportation Systems. In order to achieve this objective, it is essential that drivers have timely and reliable information about the events that occur on the tracks. Having a routing protocol that disseminates emergency messages between drivers in an efficient way is fundamental to improve the efficiency of vehicle safety support services. In this paper, we propose a new protocol, called VNIBR-EM, for the dissemination of emergency messages between vehicles within a certain coverage area. This protocol runs on a virtualization layer, which allows to reduce the effects of vehicle mobility in the process of routing. The results of simulation experiments show that our protocol achieves better performance in terms of delay and throughput than reference protocols in the literature.
