Vaccines and cancer


Abstract:

Cancer is a worldwide health problem, and vaccines have become available as a preventive and curative method in its fight. Vaccination against oncogenic viruses has demonstrated its efficacy and therapeutic vaccines are emerging as a new adjuvant option for therapy of different cancers. The aim of the study was to characterize the importance of vaccines against carcinogenic hepatitis B and human papilloma viruses. A descriptive documentary analysis of epidemiological studies, history, clinical picture, current status, results achieved with vaccination programs, research and strategies for the elimination of these viruses by vaccines according to updated publications was carried out. Challenges and specific goals proposed by WHO for vaccination by 2030 were specified and the curative importance of therapeutic vaccines developed against cancer was described.
