Vaginal bleeding in a 5 year-old girl
Abstract:
Introduction. Although vaginal bleeding is rare in young children, the pediatrician needs to be aware of the different causes so that the appropriate differential diagnosis can be made. Case report. A case of a 5- year-old black girl with vaginal bleeding of a few days duration is presented. On physical exam, a red to purple bloody mass was noticed in the vulvar introitus. The diagnosis of urethral prolapse was made. Comment. Urethral prolapse must be considered in the differential of vaginal bleeding.
