Abstract:

Introduction: The use of mobile devices has become a modern“disease”introducedintoourlivesasabyproduct of the interaction between people, mobile information and technologies. That has generated concern in multiple authors, considering that there are aspects that could be causing unwanted effects that interfere with life. Methodology: In the present manuscript, a sample of n=408 university students between 15 and 22 years old (men=46.1%, women=53.9%) was intervened, adapting the use of the MPPUS-A scale to the Ecuadorian context. Subsequently, its validity and reliability are analyzed through an Exploratory Factor Analysis (AFE) of principal components with Varimax rotation and a Confirmatory Factor Analysis (AFE). Results: An instrument with acceptable validation guarantees is presented that explains 65.86% of the variance according to the study dimensions found (a) Extraversion and the smartphone and (b) Self-esteem and addiction. Discussion: Mobile phones can be addictive because of the sense of use and their evasive function of life. The scale is favourable for its application without loss of reliability and discriminant validity. Several students feel lost when they forget their smartphone..
