Valoración del bajo peso, sobrepeso y obesidad en los niños/as de 2do a 7mo de educación básica de la Escuela Fiscal Emilio Murillo de la Comunidad de San Pedro del Cebollar, Cuenca 2010-2011

Abstract:

The research aims to determine the prevalence of underweight, overweight and obesity in the strengthening of the Fiscal ¨Emilio Murillo¨ of the Cuenca Canton school children, to speak on them, promoting actions of monitoring, nutritional counseling and food security for a growing and healthy development, rescuing cultural tradition in nutritional habits. This research is part of the project "Study of the State nutrition of children the education basic of el Canton basin", driving by the nursing school of the University of Cuenca, in which participating students, graduated, and teachers of this school. Materials and methods: it was a study of cross-section which allowed determining the prevalence of poor nutrition in children of the school Attorney Emilio Murillo of the Cuenca Canton. The universe was made up of 161 children enrolled in September 2010. The sample according to the formula applied is 62 covered children from the second to the seventh of Basic. Techniques and tools: research techniques that were used were: the poll of parents of the children. The technique of measuring Anthropometrical control. The instruments used are: tables of index of Corporal mass (IMC) the curves of the NCHS growth. Form of inquiry into the socio-economic status. Data were processed and analyzed using Microsoft office Word and Excel. With the results of the investigation could determine the nutritional status of 62 children, at the ages of 6 and 14% 59, 67 is considered normal and bad nutrition problems: low weight: 25.80%, overweight: 12.90%, and obesity: 1.61%. As regards the relationship size/age for estaturales pond relations considered normal, is 51, 61, low 35, 48 and high 12.90%. Recorded values of the BMI according to age and sex. Normal child is 67, 64%, subnormal 20, 58% and excessive 11.76%. In girls the considered normal is 50.00%, moron 32, 14% and excessive 17, 85%. The total cost of the investigation was estimated at 1,070 dollars.
