Variations in study habits by students’ gender and ethnic-cultural background, and their relationship with school performance

Abstract:

The relationship between study habits and school performance has been widely analyzed by educational researchers. Specifically, in this study we aimed at delving deeper into this area, and starting from the variables related to students’ gender and ethnic-cultural background, the study habits of different subgroups, and the analysis of their relationship with school performance are assessed and compared. Our results allow us to determine that the gender variable is more discriminating than that referring to background, women obtaining significantly higher scores on the scale of study habits. In fact, we have not found significant differences according to the origin. Regarding school performance, better scores were obtained by non-retained students. Finally, the data were subjected to a logistic regression model which provided significant results, confirming that the study habits are good pbkp_redictors, in 76% of cases, of non-retention.
