Vehicle Blocking Effect in an Urban NLOS Radio Link Operating in the 28 GHz Band

Abstract:

The impact of the presence of vehicles on an outdoor non-line of sight link operating in the 28 GHz band is evaluated using a ray tracing tool. Simulations indicate a relatively high probability for a small difference in the power received at the user equipment considering the cases of non-presence and presence of vehicles. Nevertheless, there are UE locations where such differences become large. Additionally, results suggest that the second propagation path is more impacted due to the vehicle presence and there is a slightly larger variation of the angles of departure and arrival associated to the second propagation path compared to the main first path. In order to simplify the simulation task, a spatial window is applied to the data originally obtained using a combination of a sector and omnidirectional antenna for the transmitter and receiver, respectively.
