Venezuelan food requirements and present consumption.
Abstract:
On the allowances recommended by the US National Research Council and on the 1950 census, the food requirements of the Venezuelan population were calculated. Total supplies were from recent statistics of production. The results are presented in detailed tables. For discussion of energy requirements see Abst. 2548, Vol. 25. Supplies of other nutrients were short by from 25 to 35 per cent., except for protein, vitamin C [ascorbic acid] and Fe. For protein the picture was almost certainly false because of uneven distribution. Loss of vitamin C [ascorbic acid] was mainly in cooking. TD Bell. See also Abst. 4045.
