Visualization Tools for Collaborative Systems: A Systematic Review

Abstract:

Visualization tools have become a fundamental technique in the process of collaborative work, and they have become even more relevant when it comes to monitoring an educational task. The need to carry out proposals mediated by digital technologies has led to the emergence of new tools that allow visualizing the collaborative activity of the participants. This makes it possible to develop an educational review and monitoring approach in which information is presented graphically to the students who participate in a group activity, based on interaction indicators during their online work. Having this type of tools makes it possible to carry out collaborative work in a participatory and self-regulated way. This work will focus on conducting a systematic literature review process, from which studies that will be analysed are the ones which propose or design indicator visualization tools that can be used during educational collaborative activities. The results of the systematic review show that visualization tools give support to collaborative activities and also improve the participation and detail of the activities progress. Improving at the same time, the knowledge of the user about the interactions that arise in the collaboration of the participants, leading to a better way of actions coordination for correct decision making.
