Vulnerabilities of government websites in ecuador: A pre-sampling exploratory study


Abstract:

Security in a web site is very important for its proprietary, specially at government case. The purpose of this work was to conduct an exploratory study of the most common vulnerabilities present in government web portals. Acunetix software was used for this, which is an automated application and website vulnerabilities detection tool. Of the existing government sites in the country, ten were chosen at random to perform this evaluation. Most of these sites handle sensitive information such as personal data of citizens. Statistical analysis was applied to the obtained results. When scanning the sites with the Acunetix tool it is denoted that 5% (153) of the vulnerabilities obtained belong to the High level, considered high risk. It was detected that the most vulnerable site shown 2905 vulnerabilities. A positive correlation was found between the number of scanned web elements and the amount of found vulnerabilities.
