WOMEN'S VIEWS ON THE MANAGEMENT AND CAUSE OF URINARY TRACT INFECTION: A QUALITATIVE INTERVIEW STUDY


Abstract:

Introduction: Acute urinary tract infection is one of the most common acute bacterial infections among women. Objective: To explore the opinions of women with urinary tract infection on the acceptability of different strategies to control the infection. Methods: Qualitative interview study with semi-structured one-on-one interviews within a randomized controlled trial of different management strategies. Results: Participants 21 women presenting to general practices preferred not to take antibiotics and were open to alternative management approaches. Conclusions: If women are asked to delay taking antibiotics, the physician should address women's particular concerns.
