WSN security applied to smart metering systems based on cryptography techniques


Abstract:

The information security in WSN (Wireless Sensor Network) is essential to guarantee the integrity and availability of data, even more considering a smart measurement system where the information collected is used for monitoring and billing of services such as water, electricity or gas, an attack over this network would harm both the users and the official entities of these services with erroneous or unavailable accounts and data. Therefore, this document proposes the implementation of encryption techniques in nodes of WSN, applying in a star and a Mesh topology, in order to find the best combination that meets the Smart Metering System requirements. Additionally, this paper proposes the addition of an authenticator node, which will prevent Blackhole and Wormhole attacks, guaranteeing the integrity and availability of the data transmitted to the Gateway of these systems.
