War
Abstract:
Across the social and behavioral sciences there are not many topics, as important to the functioning of human societies as warfare, that are surrounded by controversy. Research on warfare from anthropology and psychology, and, to a lesser extent, history and sociology has been synthesized to address four basic questions: Is the propensity to make war innate to human nature? What is the role of warfare in the evolution of human societies? How is warfare collectively represented in the psyche or mentality of peoples? What is the relationship between warfare and individual and collective psychological functioning today?.
