Waste management model for computer and telecommunication equipment for higher education institutions

Abstract:

Background: Waste computer and telecommunication equipment (WCTE) are significant compared to the total electronic waste. Improper WCTE management generates environmental problems. Aim: To structure a WCTE management model for higher education institutions in developing countries. Method: We carried out a Systematic Mapping Study (SMS) to study the WCTE management. Results: We structure a WCTE management model based on thebest practices of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) management. Conclusions: Most studies focus on WEEE management; nevertheless, given that WCTE is a category of WEEE, several of its practices are applicable, considering the developing countries’ restrictions.
