Water: The ideal hydrogen-atom source in free-radical chemistry mediated by TiIII and other single-electron-transfer metals?

Abstract:

(Chemical Equation Presented) Hydrogen-atom transfer from water to free radicals can be mediated by aqua complexes of titanium(III) (see scheme). Asymmetric epoxidation in combination with [Cp2TiCl]/H 2O-mediated reductive epoxide opening can be viewed as an alternative with complementary stereoselectivity to the hydroboration-epoxidation method for the enantioselective synthesis of anti-Markovnikov alcohols from alkenes. © 2006 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co.
