Wearable system for monitoring of human physical activities
Abstract:
This paper is focus on the progress of wearable technology in the area of human healthcare. It has been developed a small, low cost, low power consumption and open source wearable system that allows the monitoring of the human physical activities. One of the main reasons for developing this wearable system is to promote the sport activity and combat physical inactivity i.e. a sedentary lifestyle, which is one of the mains diseases nowadays, and it affects a large number of people around the world. The wearable system consist of a suit (a sweater and trousers) and a glove, as well as an Android mobile application that allows the visualization of the monitored data (heart pulses), besides showing the following information: the duration of the activity performed, an estimated value of the calories consumed, the distance, and the pathway traveled in a map through the use of the mobile device's GPS module and with the use of Google Earth's API. The whole system provides the opportunity to carry out entertaining physical activities in outdoor environments using a wearable technology application.
