Weed Detection in Cereal Fields Using Image Processing Techniques
Abstract:
Recent studies have demonstrated a patchy distribution of weed species in cereal crops, the degree of patchiness varying between species and fields. Agrochemical usage can be reduced by identifying the location and features of weed patches in the field followed by a selective herbicide application. Bearing in mind that real‐time patch spraying is still a difficult process, the objective of this study were to develop a procedure which used digital image processing techniques for detecting broadleaf weeds in cereal crops, under actual field conditions This research is part of the E.E.C. Project “Patchwork”, whose main goal is to develop systems and techniques for carrying out spatially variable treatments.
