Weed mapping in cereal crops using image analysis techniques

Abstract:

Since a number of recent investigations have demonstrated a patchy distribution of one or more weed species in arable fields (Brown et al., 1990; Mortensen et al., 1992), weed monitoring of subdivisions of the field would permit spatially selective herbicide spraying (Nordbo et al., 1994). This produces a saving in pesticide use and, what is more important, reduces the exposure of the field and surrounding ecosystems to agrochemical inputs.
