Abstract:

An emerging topic in marketing will have to be the impact of the Internet on both consumer behavior and society at large. Marketers and public policy makers are facing highly challenging online consumer behavior issues in the realms of business and ethics. Among several key issues are the concerns of businesses and individuals regarding their rights to identity and privacy, and the impact of the Internet on corporate ethics and individual morals. For instance, the fear of cybersquatting (which refers to the registration of domain names of well-known trademarks by those who do not own the trademarks but then try to sell the domain names back to the trademark owners) has prompted major websites like Yahoo to start mass sales of personalized domain names.
