Wolff Parkinson White syndrome in cuban rower

Abstract:

Introduction: Wolff Parkinson White Syndrome involves an overexcitation of the heart’s ventricles, causing a forced or voluntary abandonment on the part of high-performance athlete who suffers from it. Objective: To make a diagnosis and define behavior and permanence of the case study in the sport of high-competition rower. Methods: The case that is analyzed has as characteristics to a high-performance rowing athlete with two and a half years of sport life, white race and male sex, with no significant personal pathological antecedents of good medical-pedagogical results, including the pattern Electrocardiogram (ECG). Results: The Orthostatic Test determines a Ventricular Preexcitation, type WPW (Type B) that is triggered by physical exertion. Conclusions: It was decided to propose the suspension of practice high-performance sport, because it can trigger a malignant arrhythmia in course of physical exertion. Athlete de-training is suggested.
