Women's representation in the Spanish cartoon: Female construction and participation

Abstract:

The rise of the feminist movement in Spain took place during the transition, a historical event that was reflected in some ways in the cartoons of the newspapers, however, the prevailing phallocracy made that male illustrators take the woman's role at that time, some important authors are recognized in the struggle for gender equality, such as Perich or Forges. The role of women, their social image, and feminism are represented in the cartoons from a men's approach and view, a fact that continues to be valid today, where the main Spanish media outlets continue to rely on male illustrators, and It was until the spread of social networks where women begin to find a space to publish their illustrations, giving birth to a subgenre that can be called as the "autovignette", feminist cartoons with a woman's signature.
