Abstract:

Higher education is currently based on knowledge as a differentiating factor for productivity and wealth creation. The general objective of this study is to demonstrate how knowledge management is related to the level of academic performance in students of the Tourism Career of the Universidad Regional Autónoma de Los Andes, Ecuador. The dimensions of knowledge management are established as the acquisition of knowledge and the use of knowledge, although the rest of the processes of the knowledge management value chain (knowledge organization, knowledge dissemination and knowledge measurement) are also considered. The research presented is non-experimental, cross-sectional, has a mixed approach (qualitative and quantitative) and its scope is correlational, since its objective is to identify the relationships between two variables. It works with a sample of 49 students of the Tourism Career; a questionnaire is applied that has as precedents the study of 18 questionnaires of knowledge management audit; and, the academic performance is evaluated, according to the forms of evaluation developed in the career. Among the main results, the influence of adequate knowledge management on the academic performance of the students of the Tourism Career is evidenced.
