YOGA FOR CHRONIC LOW BACK PAIN


Abstract:

Introduction: Previous studies indicate that yoga can effectively treat chronic low back pain. Objective: To compare the effectiveness of yoga and usual care for chronic or recurrent low back pain. Methods: Controlled, randomized, parallel-group trial using computer-generated randomization. Results were assessed using a postal questionnaire. Results: 93 (60%) patients offered yoga attended at least 3 of the first 6 sessions and at least 3 other sessions. Conclusions: Offering a 12-week yoga program to adults with chronic low back pain produced greater improvements in back function than usual care.
