Yield and quality of the Pennisetum purpureum vc Maralfalfa in the Amazonía Ecuatoriana
Abstract:
The introduction of new species in cattle ecosystems brings I get better knowledge of the yield and quality of the plant. Reason why, the objective was the functional relation of the age settled down with the yield and indicators of quality. A design was applied at random in blocks, to sow the Pennisetum purpureum with a stake and plantation distance of a meter. The variable yield of green and dry matter of leaves and shafts were evaluated, total production of the plant in humid and dry base, gross protein, fiber, Ca and P, to the ages of 30, 45, 60, 75 and 90 days of harvesting. To establish the functional relationship of the age with the indicators of the yield and the quality was carried out a regression analysis. The total production of green matter and dry increased with the age for (P<0,001) and equations of quadratic regression were adjusted, for both cases, the biggest values were presented to the 90 days. The indicators of quality were adjusted to lineal, quadratic and cubic equations, the protein went superior to 7% to the 75 days of age. It is concluded that age had a marked effect in the behavior of the evaluated indicators, when increasing the yield and to diminish the quality. The established regression equations explain the relationship of the age, the yield and the chemical composition. These can be used to design efficient handling systems of this variety.
