[en] Towards an education of Sumak Kawsay through the artistic proposal of Oswaldo Guayasamín

Abstract:

This article intends to foster an educational culture of Sumak Kawsay (to live fully) as a possible community answer, focused on the maturity of a person´s training through a proposal of dialogue with the possible meanings that the Ecuadorian painter Oswaldo Guayasamín´s work embodies, who demands a change in the vision of the spectator from a Latin American world view; specifically, we centre on known as “Madre y niño”, “España”, “Mutilados” and “Origen”. In this way, and considering the difficulties to provide education with radical topics (essentially related to maturity) which are present in the political and educational proposal of good living such as death, dialogue, the conscience of finitude and of belonging to nature, the conscience of the world or of a species, or egotism itself, we propose a “culturising” debate in the context of its artistic approach which can contribute to its standardization in a setting presided by the skepticism of the education community, the scarce presence in the curricular designs, poor teacher training and cultural misgivings in this profession, the family and society.
