“Cobertura mediática sobre la participación política de las mujeres aspirantes a la Presidencia de la República en los procesos electorales 2017 y 2021”

Abstract:

The media, historically, have been a channel for the reproduction of stereotypes and social roles, especially towards vulnerable groups and minorities, such as women. This replica of macho patterns, which is born in the mass media but is promoted in all areas of society, influences the population at the moment of choosing who will rule the destiny of one country.Thefore, it is imperative the media offers spaces for the dissemination of campaign proposals offered by women candidates. These are still insufficient which turns out in less political participation of this social group. In the methodology, the contents of the articles of two of the most read newspapers in Guayaquil were analyzed: El Universo and El Telégrafo, in order to establish the disparity in terms of the spaces granted to the only female 3 candidates in the presidential elections of 2017 and 2021. Likewise, this research aims to study closely how the diffusion of the presidential proposals of only the male candidates has an impact on the voters; for this purpose, surveys and interviews were carried out .The proposal is intended at promoting the search for more leadership training spaces for women and to reduce gradually those political, social and economic barriers that women face when choosing to participate in an electoral process.
