“Con el sudor de mi frente”. Las cacicas de la Audiencia de Quito en la economía del siglo XVIII (Estudios)

Abstract:

The article depicts the economic activities of the women chiefs (cacicas) of the Audiencia of Quito in the eighteenth century and explores how they were involved in local trade channels. The files reveal the strategy these women used, combining their political status and economic power, in order to move about more energetically in the colonial economy. But sources also provide an account of the gender-based constraints these cacicas encountered when participating in trade or business activities.
