“Efectos adversos de la vacuna h1n1 en pacientes crónicos y embarazadas inscritos en el Centro de Salud Nº 2 Cuenca–Ecuador 2010”
Abstract:
Objective: To determine the adverse effects of the H1N1 influenza vaccine in chronic patients and pregnant women enrolled in the Health Center Nº 2, in Cuenca-Ecuador 2010. Material and Methods: A descriptive study of 583 patients with chronic diseases and pregnant women enrolled in the Health Area Nº 2, on April 2010 in Cuenca city to get vaccinated against the influenza AH1N. Data were obtained from surveys. It was suitable for the study population, the same that was filled by researchers. Then, they followed up the sample after vaccination. After that, the researchers obtained descriptive statistical analysis with frequencies and percentages. Results: 88.5% patients with chronic illnesses and 10.8% pregnant women of the 583 studied patients reported the highest percentage of adverse effects after a week of the vaccines application. The results presented that 23% of the sample was applied with Celtura and 25% of the sample vaccinated with monovalent, caused the following effects: pain and swelling at the injection site, runny nose, fever, and cough. This study assured the absence of severe allergic reactions or rare reactions. Conclusions: • Chronic diseases are presented in a high percentage. • No serious adverse effects were observed in this project, also compared with several studies similar to ours with related results. • It is a higher incidence of adverse events following vaccination with V. Monovalent H1N1. However, the sample for this group is also lower so the percentage is increasing. • The most common side effects using both, the Monovalent and Celtura, were pain and swelling at the injection site.
