“Examinando las elecciones ecuatorianas de 2020–2021 desde una perspectiva transnacional. Discursos de la oferta política

Abstract:

Migration has had a political, social and economic impact throughout history. With the increase in globalization, migration has become a recurring phenomenon in times when countries have gone through complex political and economic crises. A clear example of this is the high migratory flow that occurred in Ecuador in the late 1990s. Phenomena like this in countries around Latin America and the world have made the electoral political study of the transnational terrain take on relevance in the academic circle. The Latin American electoral campaigns in 2019–2020 create an ideal context for studying the vote abroad, a space in which the political offer plays a fundamental role in the execution of public policies and connection with the diaspora. This research explores the discursive exchange of leaders and members of political parties between the national and transnational arenas, in the framework of the 2021 general elections in Ecuador, where during the last 20 years a series of public policies have been established in favor of Ecuadorians abroad. For this, a qualitative approach was used together with an exploratory scope of the study. This led to determine the relevance of the vote abroad for the political offer, understanding it as a right, as well as the importance it gives to citizen participation. In the same way, an important effort is denoted from the political offer to generate campaigns in the transnational space. Finally, the representativeness of the offer is limited according to its perception. Key Words: TRANSNATIONALISM, VOTING ABROAD, CAMPAIGNS, SPEECHES, POLITICAL OFFERINGS, MIGRATION, THEORY OF SOCIAL DISCOURSE, ECUADOR.
