“Fetching water through technology catchers on peasant communities in Galte, Guamote, Province of Chimborazo, Ecuador”

Abstract:

Fog Collector System is a technique applied in several countries such as Oman, Yemen, Namibia, Chile, Spain and Guatemala. In Ecuador, Galte communities in the Andean region suffer from water deficit because they are located over 3500 meters. The aim of this work was to install fog collector systems in Galte between 2014 and 2015. Each collector harvested between 5 and 20 L of water per day in summer and winter periods respectively per 1 m2. Rainfall in the area is low, about 600 mm per year, but compared to evapotranspiration values, it was high approximately 615.74 mm per year. The system fog collectors was designed taking into account the amount of water required for area of maize which was estimated by the method of Blaney - Criddle. This system satisfies about 5% of local demand needed for a corn crop planted in Galte.
