“Los discursos y estrategias de candidatos y líderes de partidos en perspectiva transnacional. Estudio de las elecciones generales de 2020 en República Dominicana”
Abstract:
In migration studies, the transnational perspective has been notoriously excluded, especially in political-electoral analysis. This work explored the 2020 general elections in the Dominican Republic in order to identify the similarities and differences in the fields of national and transnational participation in terms of discourses. In this research, the Theory of Social Discourse was used to analyze the discursive exchange between both electoral arenas, the properties that define it and the marks of meaning. This study with a qualitative approach collected the empirical evidence through documentary review, semi-structured interviews with leaders and members of political parties, and speeches taken from the official media and social networks. The results made it possible to understand the construction of the migrant population, the influence of Dominicans emigrants in national elections, and the notion of voting in the imaginary of the Dominican political offer.
