Teachers and students facing the production and dissemination processes on YouTube and Instagram

Abstract:

Social networks have brought about significant changes in the paradigm of communication and cultural and citizen participation. Education has not been exempt from this scenario. Through an online questionnaire, information was collected on the media competence of high school students and teachers in Ecuador in relation to the production and dissemination of content on YouTube and Instagram. Among other findings, there is little interest on the part of teachers and students to create content; those who do so prefer Instagram. The lack of knowledge of tools and the absence of training in media competence limit this production. In the educational plan, such processes do not focus the attention of the younger generations, while teachers do so due to work requirements. A scenario of literacy opportunities that strengthen the use of YouTube in the classroom and integrate Instagram to generate educational content is envisioned.
