Case study on traction esophageal endoprosthesis in obstructive cancer

Abstract:

Introduction: The study of traction esophageal stenting in obstructive cancer is important because it improves the patient's quality of life; it is an alternative to surgery; it can improve survival; and it contributes to the development of new technologies. Objective: To characterize the development of a new method of esophageal endoprosthesis, through the results obtained in different cases. Methods: The study consisted of the development of clinical cases, which represent one of the types of research studies of descriptive level, which contributed to form a clinical knowledge base on esophageal endoprosthesis, being an epidemiological study that identified and described a set of clinical cases that arose in a specific geographic (Ecuador) and temporal (2010-2021) delimitation. Results: It was shown that esophageal cancer is still diagnosed late in advanced stages. In obstructive esophageal cancer, in most cases some palliative procedure should be performed, with esophageal endoprosthesis placement being a widely accepted technique. In the General Surgery services of Atocha Ambato and Básico Metropolitano Ambato Hospitals from January 2010 to December 2021, 10 esophageal endoprostheses were placed by traction, using a Tygon or Vinyl tube. Conclusions: It was concluded that the exposed method was an alternative for palliation, improvement of the patient's living conditions, avoiding to perform ostomies and relieving their dysphagia. In addition, the model has an original design, easy to make, cheap, safe and avoids migration.
