Association of Behçet's disease with sex, genetic inheritance and geographic group

Abstract:

Introduction: Behçet's disease is a multisystem disease that can affect virtually all human organ systems. Objective: The objective of the study was to associate sex, genetic inheritance and geographic group with the risk of having Behçet's disease. Methods: The study corresponded to the relational level and was analytical,observational, retrospective, and cross-sectional. The study population consisted of 50 patients receiving medical care in hospitals located in the cities of Santo Domingo, Puyo and Ambato in Ecuador. To analyse the relationship between the variables of interest, the Chi-square test of independence was used using IBM SPSS Statistics software (version 25). Results: The results revealed that there was no significant association between Behçet's disease and sex (p-value = 0.254), geographical group (p-value = 0.571), or genetic inheritance (p-value = 0.777). In all cases p-values were >0.05). Conclusions: In conclusion, this study found no evidence of a significant association between Behçet's disease and the variables of sex, genetic inheritance and geographical group in the Ecuadorian population. These results suggest that additional factors may be influencing the development of the disease, and that understanding it in this specific context requires more detailed investigations and multidisciplinary approaches.
