Development of a didactic application for optical communications practices using MATLAB App Designer


Abstract:

This paper presents the results obtained from the development of a didactic application as a support tool for teachers and students in the teaching-learning process of the subject of optical communications. This application has been developed in order to solve practical exercises of Snell’s law, light transmission over optical fiber and optical budget. The platform selected for the development of this application is Matlab App Designer, provided by Mathworks. The advantage of this platform with respect to other tools is that functions, complements and applications that are already available in Matlab and that are related to the application to be developed can be easily coupled and reused. Through this application, which can be installed on Windows, Linux, or even on a server for access through a URL, students can complement the theoretical content reviewed in the course.
